Are sliding doors the best option for your commercial property development?

You might be considering the different options available for your development, evaluating whether or not sliding doors are the right option. At Origin, our commercial sliding doors have various benefits that make them a great choice for any property development. For example - they're highly durable, remarkably energy-efficient, and can suit a large variety of buildings.

Sliding aluminium doors are often compared to bi-fold doors and French doors when it comes to commercial development doors. However, sliding doors take up less space than other types of aluminium patio doors (as they don’t have to open in or out), so they're a good option if you're working with limited space. They also offer very slim sightline options – for example, the Origin Artisan Slider OS-20 comes with sightlines of just 20mm. Additionally, sliding doors are also very easy to install. However, you may want to get assistance from a supplier such as Origin if you want to save valuable time.

Lastly, we recommend using sliding doors for more modern property designs, as they offer a sleeker design than more traditional options, such as French doors.

Before making a final decision, it's important to consult with a professional to see if sliding doors are the best option for your particular development. At Origin, we have a team of experts who are on hand to help you choose the right type of door for your needs. We'll work with you to ensure that your sliding aluminium door has the perfect look and feel for your development.

What are the different materials available for commercial sliding doors, and how does aluminium compare to other materials?

There are a few different types of materials that can be used for commercial sliding doors, including UPVC, timber and aluminium. Aluminium is a popular choice for commercial sliding doors because it’s both strong and durable, while also being lightweight and easy to operate. Timber is another option, but it can be heavy and difficult to manoeuvre and requires consistent care to be long-lasting, while UPVC can be prone to warping and is not as strong as aluminium. Ultimately, the best type of material for a sliding patio door will also depend on the specific needs and requirements of your business.

Depending on the height of the door, the points of locking may increase.

The OS-29, OS-44 and OS-77 Patio Sliders also offer a multi-point locking system, but offer a variety of different handle combinations – 1 with an all-in-one handle and 1 offset bar handle with separate locking escutcheon.

All of the lock and handle combinations have undergone meticulous security testing to ensure that they are not susceptible to housebreaking techniques. The OS-77 is also compliant with the stringent PAS (Product Assessment Specification) 24:2016 security standards.

Origin sliding door designs

When choosing an aluminium sliding door system from Origin, there are two main choices - the Artisan or the Patio Slider. The main difference between the two is that the Artisan is the slightly more modern option as it has slim sightlines of 20mm as a bonded or wet glazing system. The Patio Slider, on the other hand, has respective sightlines of 29mm, 44mm and 77mm. This means that the choice comes down both to the project’s specifications and style.
