Are the garage doors durable enough for the property?

Choosing a supplier who uses high-quality materials for garage doors can have an impact on your reputation as a property developer.

Popular garage door materials include aluminium, wood, steel and composite garage doors. Aluminium garage doors are a highly popular option, as they are extremely lightweight and offer excellent durability. Aluminium also offers the following benefits:

  • Extremely lightweight
  • Durable
  • Resistant to rust and corrosion
  • Secure
  • Good thermal efficiency
  • Enhanced kerb appeal
  • Low maintenance
  • High-quality material.

Does the supplier offer a range of garage door sizes and configurations?

When finding a garage door supplier for your project development, you need to consider the sizes and configurations available to ensure there is a suitable option available for your project.

Consider the following:

  • Size of the opening and mechanisms available
  • Panel sizes available
  • Room/ clearance for the doors to open.

What lead times does the supplier offer?

Lead times are an essential consideration when specifying garage doors for a project. If you have a tight deadline, or the project is waiting for delivery of the doors, it’s important to find a supplier who will be able to deliver within the right time frame and is reliable.

The industry standard in terms of lead times is 4-6 weeks. However, the seven most popular colours in the Kensington Range are available on a one-week lead time. For those outside the seven colours or any panel in any colour in the Sandringham Range are available on a five-week lead time.

Is there a design option available that will suit your property development?

In addition to considering factors such as sizes and security – you also need to consider colour options, style and accessories to ensure you can provide the ideal door for a property development.

Popular colour options for the Origin Garage Door include:

  • Anthracite Grey (7016M)
  • Black Grey (7021M)
  • Slate Grey (7015M)
  • Hipca White (9910G & 9910M)
  • Jet Black (9005M)
  • Dark Silver Metallic (9007M)
  • Dual colour of 9910G in and 7016M out.

Ensure the garage doors adhere to building regulations

All easily accessible doorsets (including garage doorsets) that provide access into a dwelling or into a building should be secure doorsets in accordance with paragraphs 1.2 to 1.4 of the Q building regulations. For example – this applies if a garage provides access to a dwelling, such as an interconnecting door inside a garage leading to the inside of the home. According to building regulations, these doors should be either:

  • Manufactured to a design that meets the security requirements of British Standards publication PAS 24:2012 or
  • Designed and manufactured in accordance with Appendix B.

If a garage has no interconnecting door that allows access into a dwelling, it doesn’t have to be in accordance with these regulations.

Do some research into the supplier

In addition to these factors, you may also want to do some research into the following:

  • Look at testimonials and reviews of the supplier.
  • Does the supplier offer guarantees?
  • Does the supplier offer reliable delivery?
  • Will the supplier assist you in specifying the right product for a development?
